Level 1 - Foundations of Dao-Qi Needling

What is Dao-Qi Needling?

Dao-qi needling technique original from Huangdi Neijing, which is characterized by applying gentle and smooth manipulation in certain level of points to guiding the Qi to the sick area. Its main functions are adjusting the rebellious Qi and regulating the Qi of channels and internal organs, coordinated balance.

Content of the Seminar

The seminar is going to introduce the origin and development of Dao-qi, the features and manipulation, commonly used Dao-qi acupuncture points with detail anatomy structure and needling, case studies, with many hands-on practice.

What You Will Learn

After the course, participants will understanding the foundation knowledge about Dao-qi needling technique, how to practice Dao-qi technique in darly clinic practice, how to use Dao-qi technique on everyday patients particularly brain related conditions.

Target Group

Any acupuncturists or final year acupuncture students are eligible to register to the Dao-qi needling technique seminar. The acupuncturists who have done scalp acupuncture Level 1 and above will understand and achieve even better and deeper.

General course structure

Day 1 - from 11.00 till 17.00 hrs
  • The Unique feartures of acupuncture techniques.
  • The manipulation, applications and caution of Dao-qi.
  • Commonly used Dao-qi points 1 with anatomy structure and needling.
  • Dao-qi L1 points workshops 1 (DU-15 and DU-16).
Day 2 - from 11.00 till 17.00 hrs
  • Reveiw Dao-qi points 1.
  • Commonly used Dao-qi points 2 with anatomy structure and needling.
  • Dao-qi L1 points workshops 2 (DU-14, DU-9).
  • Dao-qi L1 points workshops 3 (DU-4, DU-3, DU-2).

From Foundations to Advanced Clinical Application

After completing Dao-Qi Level 1, practitioners can progress to Dao-Qi Level 2 to deepen both their theoretical understanding and clinical application of this classical technique. Level 2 builds on the foundational principles by refining needle manipulation, expanding the use of Du Mai and Ren Mai points, and introducing additional points such as BL-54 and the Baliao. The focus shifts toward treating more complex conditions involving the brain, central axis, internal organs, and multisystem disorders, enabling practitioners to apply Dao-Qi with greater precision and confidence in daily clinical practice.

About the teacher

Dr. Tianjun Wang graduated from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NUCM) in 1989. He completed his PhD on Acupuncture for Depression at NUCM. Tianjun moved to the UK and joined the University of East London UK as a Senior Lecturer and the Director of Acupuncture Clinic 2007- 2014. He is a Guest Professor of NUCM. Current Prof. Wang is the Principal of the London Academy of Chinese Acupuncture UK (LACA). Prof. Wang is the Vice President of the Scalp Acupuncture Committee of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) and the president of the Institute of Scalp Acupuncture UK (ISA), the honorary president of the Chinese Acupuncture and herbal Medicine Alliance UK (CAHMA). He owns TJAcupuncture Clinic and Brain Care Centre in London.

Prof. Wang has authored and co-authored more than 50 academic papers as well as peer reviewers to many international journals. His authored book “Acupuncture for Brain: Treatment for Neurological and Psychologic Disorders” published by Springer 2021.

Overview of Advanced Acupuncture Trainings

Scalp Acupuncture Program
This three-level program offers a structured and progressive training in scalp acupuncture. Starting with the foundations of scalp acupuncture and brain-related theory, the program advances toward complex clinical applications and integrated treatment strategies. Each level builds on the previous one, allowing practitioners to gradually deepen their technical skills, anatomical knowledge, and clinical confidence.
Dao-Qi Acupuncture Program
The Dao-Qi program focuses on a classical needling technique rooted in the Huangdi Neijing, emphasizing the skill of guiding Qi with precision and subtlety. The training progresses from foundational principles toward advanced clinical applications, with a strong focus on the Du Mai, Ren Mai, and central axis of the body.

  • Dao-Qi Level 2 – Advanced Dao-Qi applications, expanded point selection, and treatment of complex, multisystem conditions.
