The Middle School of Internal Alchemy

Did you know that Neidan is mainly passed down in practice manuals written in coded language and not only as a set of techniques? It has been a common agreement in Daoism that in order to study Neidan, students require both a teacher and a clear understandings of the theory contained in this profound manuscripts.

The Jade Tablet Decree of Nature and Life (Xing Ming Gui Zhi) is the most complete Neidan manuscript of the Middle School of Neidan. We like the Middle School because it relies on natural practices which are easy to learn and have great effects on body and spirit. The Jade Tablet Decree is a long text, but we have condensed key sections about practice to help you learn a real, profound Neidan method capable of helping you build a life long relationship with your energetic anatomy much deeper than what is commonly available with contemporary Qigong practice.

In this two day seminar you will learn:
  • Key points of meditation in the body: you will learn how to use points of the body analogous with various acupoints used in TCM Acupuncture to generate meditative experiences, develop energy and attain spiritual awareness.
  • The reverse method of activating the Du Meridian by using the “Dual Gate”: The Thoracic Dual Gate is a unique feature of Middle School Neidan practice which reverses the flow of the Du Meridian in order to relax the spine and cause Qi to cleanly penetrate to the base of the spine and top of the head. This practice is virtually unknown in the West, but we have been practicing it for years and have found it to have great results.
  • Effortless Embryonic Breathing: Neidan Embryonic Breathing is a high level technique that is difficult to master, but using the method from the Jade Tablet Decree can help you learn to use the Dual Gate to effortlessly open the Lower Dantian and achieve Embryonic Breathing without trying.
  • Working Toward the Mystery Gate: The Mystery Gate is the highest level practice of Daoism and bridges the Pre and Post Heaven states, but it is also a core basic practice which should be worked on from the first day of practice. In our seminar we will learn what the mystery gate is, how to work toward achieving it, the signs it will happen, and the mystery gate experience. Usually this process takes a few months to feel, but we will work toward it and have seen students experience it during previous weekend seminars.
  • Jade Fluid Refines the Body: This Daoist Qigong technique uses the saliva to open the Yin and Yang Wei Meridians. It is a supplementary exercise in the Jade Tablet Decree designed to help new students quickly feel Qi and circulate it in the entire body.
Both of these classes are great ways to learn Neidan and Daoist Qigong, we will mainly focus on practical instruction with theory used to support our practice. In past events at Qing-Bai we have seen students have wonderful effects and heard great reports about the transformative power of these practices, so we look forward to the opportunity to share them with you this November!!

The teacher

Robert James Coons has studied Martial Arts and Daoist Internal Cultivation over many years, he is also trained in TCM. His main teacher Yang Hai is an expert on Internal Alchemy (Neidan) and studied with many masters, including the former abbot of the White Cloud Monastery in Beijing, the most important center for Daoist studies in mainland China.
His knowledge of the Chinese language and his wide reading in Neidan documents, makes him an excellent expert in this material. His clear exposition on these themes, without being esoteric and having a more secular approach, makes him extremely suitable to transmit this material to serious students of Neidan in the West.
Robert is author of the book Internal Elixir Cultivation: The Nature of Daoist Meditation.
Robert will be assisted by Felix de Haas, who teaches the Engaging Vitality approach to acupuncture, postgraduate courses on Chinese Medicine and other modules concerning the philosophical and historical background of East Asian Medicine.
