Shen-Hammer Pulse Diagnosis
From the big picture to clinical clarity

Learn to understand the pulse as a reflection of the entire energetic system.

In this 6-day workshop (3x Zoom + 3x hands-on), Claus Sørensen teaches the Shen-Hammer Pulse System and Dr. Shen’s Systems Model through the perspective of Liu Jing. You will learn how to palpate the pulse as one interconnected system, recognize common pulse qualities and depths, and apply this understanding directly in clinical practice.

This seminar combines classical theory with intensive practical training and direct feedback.

Target group

This seminar is intended for acupuncturists and advanced students who want to deepen their pulse diagnosis skills, seek greater clinical confidence and want to translate pulse findings directly into treatment (including via the Six Channels).

Understanding the Bigger Picture Through the Pulse

In pulse diagnosis, details matter, but before focusing on details, it is essential to understand the larger energetic movements within the body.

Within Dr. Shen’s Systems Model, the pulse reflects the relationship between Yin and Yang, the Digestive System and Organ System, and the movement of Liu Jing throughout the organism.
By palpating the entire artery, from cun to chi, participants learn to recognize broader energetic patterns and understand how these dynamics manifest clinically.

Throughout the workshop, Claus guides participants in developing:
  • Sensitivity in palpation
  • Recognition of common pulse qualities
  • Understanding of pulse depths
  • Clinical interpretation of the pulse
  • Application of the Systems Model in daily practice
The workshop is strongly practice-oriented. Participants will work directly with the pulse together throughout the seminar, as hands-on experience and immediate feedback are essential to the learning process.

Course structure

Zoom - theory & preparation (3 evenings)

Before the in-person seminar, there will be three live online preparation sessions via Zoom.
Time: 19.00 - 21.00 hrs CET (Amsterdam time)
Dates:
  • Wednesday 10 March 2027
  • Wednesday 24 March 2027
  • Wednesday 7 April 2027
What we will discuss:
  • Introduction to Shen-Hammer Pulse Diagnosis
  • Yin-Yang and pulse depths
  • Systems Model & Liu Jing
  • Pulse waves, Qi and Blood continuums
  • Case-based pulse analysis

In-person training (3-day weekend)

Dates: Friday 16, Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 April 2027
Time: 11.00 - 18.00 hrs CET (Amsterdam time)
During these three days, theory and practice are continuously integrated through demonstration, pulse palpation and clinical discussion.

The emphasis lies on hands-on practice, shared observation and discussion. Direct feedback is essential and forms the core of the learning process. What we will discuss:
  • Finger placement and depth calibration
  • Comparing left and right pulses (Entire Pulse vs. Cun-Guan-Chi)
  • Identifying common pulse qualities
  • Shock/trauma, Heat, Blood and Yin patterns in the pulse
  • Clinical integration: from pulse diagnosis to treatment approach
