Treating Vulvodynia with Chinese Medicine
An effective approach to a common but underrecognized condition

Vulvodynia: A Hidden Challenge

Approximately 15% of women and female adolescents experience chronic vulvar pain without an identifiable cause, known as vulvodynia. Despite its prevalence, awareness of this condition remains surprisingly low—even among gynecologists. As a result, it is often misdiagnosed or overlooked, leading patients to undergo years of ineffective or unnecessary treatments, worsening both their physical symptoms and mental well-being.

Women suffering from vulvodynia frequently feel isolated and unheard. Beyond the persistent pain, the condition significantly impacts their quality of life, and conventional medical treatment options are limited due to insufficient research and understanding of this complex syndrome.

Chinese Medicine as a Safe and Effective Treatment

For the past 17 years, Orit Zilberman has dedicated her clinical work and research to understanding and treating vulvodynia. Through her extensive experience, she has found that Chinese medicine provides a powerful, safe, and effective approach for managing chronic vulvar and vaginal pain. In this two-day seminar, she shares her in-depth knowledge and practical treatment strategies based on real clinical cases.

Who is this seminar for?

This seminar is designed for certified Chinese medicine practitioners who want to expand their knowledge and skills in treating vulvodynia. The course focuses on acupuncture and herbal treatment, but prior knowledge of herbal medicine is not required.

What you will learn

  • Vulvodynia from a Western medical perspective: anatomy, definition, diagnosis, and conventional treatment approaches
  • The psychological and social impact: how vulvodynia affects daily life, and how to approach and communicate with patients sensitively
  • Understanding vulvodynia in Chinese medicine: etiology, syndromes, treatment strategies, acupuncture techniques, and herbal prescriptions
  • Integrating different theories and approaches that shaped Orit’s treatment methodology, including Yin Fire, the Shang Han Lun, and Master Tung acupuncture
  • Clinical case studies: real-life examples and practical applications for effective treatment
  • Diet and lifestyle modifications as an integral part of therapy
  • Topical and natural treatments that remain underexplored but show significant potential in clinical practice
